All you "Bownuts" out there...how much do you guys hunt the early season, and what are the better tactics? Water holes, open meadows???
I drew the Multi Tag again this year and decided to buy it. Never hunted bow for deer so I was wondering if you use different strategies than later on. Plus I just got a new present to use this year, picked up the Hoyt Katera, cronoed my hunt weight arrows last night, they hit just under 294- 296fps. Should get a pass through

If you have never hunted deer w/a bow, you are in for a treat - I would suggest you find a portable deer stand. If you are hunting whitetail, find the deer trails and set up in a tree and just sit and watch. Make sure you have open shooting lanes (a small stick, branch, or anything) will ruin your day.
The deer behave pretty much the same, but they don't get ran all over when the "BOOMS" start happening in modern. Get above them, and you will be amazed at how much you will learn of their behavior - I've had does bed down right below me by the tree I was up in.
If you don't have any, might want to get some scent lock gear as well... plus, some liquid deer scent - squirt a little on your boot bottom.
I've always found myself more immersed into nature while bow hunting - there is something peaceful about releasing an arrow, and not disturbing everything else around you.

Have't really thought too much yet, I may just bang around the house here in Black Diamond, but also may head up into my Elk area scout for them and bang out a deer.
Although I kknow there are some P&Y'ers here, I bagged one with a rifle that just missed B&C a few years back and scared a bigger one off with my Muzzleloader shortly after that . I also may travel to a buddie's place in Napavine, He's been keeping an eye on a 6X4 Blacktail. That's gotta be a good buck
My Union contract runs out at the end of the month so I may be needing to save gas money
Your statement on being immersed in nature, is a great way to descibe the feeling, although I haven't gotten anything bigger than a grouse with it yet. There is a unique peaceful feeling wandering around the woods with a bow. Even with a top Shelf advanced model there still is a sense of a primative aspect.
I thought the Tree stand, and i may try it but I haven't shot out of one yet, I may borrow my Dad's and freak my wife out by skinnying but the Fir out back

| The best thing to do in the early season is take the unhiked trails above the timerline to the huckleberry fields and find the deer that aren't used to seeing people. I used to shoot a lot of deer in the early season while elk hunting until I figured out it was screwing up my elk hunts. You will find them a lot more relaxed and approachable up high.

| Oh yeah, I saw a lot of turkeys in the Teanaway the last three weeks, lots of birds.

| I have been thinking of taking a trot over to the teanaway for a deer hunt next month myself. Good pointers, thanks.....And NICE on the birds love to hear them buggers getting bigger every year.

Well I had one opportunity at a Doe this year...and I'm still hunting. We spotted her in a clearcut, figuring I nve got anything with the bow,we'd give her a try, snuck right into 40 yards ranged her, had time everything was just right. Broadside standing there wondering what we were. Let it fly could see it flying true until I whacked a tansy bush at about 39 yards...double lunge it...the tansy that is. Saw the arrow take an immediate up hill flight right intoa pile of Blackberry bush. So tonight I'm packing some powder into my 50 and right after work I'll head to Adna hoping to empty it
Ira how'd you end up in the early season? Haven't heard from you in awhile?
